Polycarbonate vs Tempered Glass

Solid polycarbonate sheet and tempered glass are two materials that serve a similar purpose and can be used in windows or any type of construction that requires a large amount of transparent or translucent material. There are also differences, let's learn together.

UNQ solid sheet is a kind of engineering plastic, which is made of polycarbonate as raw material through the extrusion process. It has excellent characteristics such as sound insulation and noise reduction, thermal insulation, UV protection, high-altitude parabolic protection, and anti-fog droplet protection. In daily life, it is usually used in canopies, carports, greenhouses, highway sound insulation panels, aisle lighting, pedestrian bridges, etc.

Tempered glass is made by heating ordinary glass to a certain degree of softening and then rapidly and uniformly cooling it. Its strength is 4-6 times that of ordinary glass. If this kind of glass is installed in high-rise buildings, it can resist the erosion of strong wind and heavy rain and has a certain impact. It is a kind of safety glass, which is often used in doors and windows, automobiles, curtain walls, window furniture, etc.

We analyze the differences between the two from the following aspects.

Weight

Under the same specifications, the weight of solid polycarbonate sheet is lighter than that of tempered glass. It can save human and financial resources such as transportation and installation to a certain extent.

Plasticity:

UNQ solid polycarbonate sheet has the characteristics of being bendable and has strong plasticity under certain circumstances. It is suitable for narrow spaces and special angles and can be used in various spaces for convenient construction. The physical properties of tempered glass make it impossible to bend, and its applicability is not so strong.

Impact resistance:

In practical application, the glass is at great risk of shattering when encountering strong winds and earthquakes, even tempered glass is the same. However, UNQ solid polycarbonate sheet does not have such concerns, so its strength is 250 times that of ordinary glass and 50-100 times that of tempered glass. Even if it is hit with a hammer, it will not break. So to a certain extent, UNQ solid polycarbonate sheet is much safer than tempered glass.

Thermal performance:

Under the condition of the same thickness, UNQ solid polycarbonate sheet can save energy than glass, plexiglass and other materials.

Through the above analysis, it can be seen that in fact, the solid sheet can gradually replace glass in practical applications, even in terms of aesthetics. And the solid polycarbonate sheet can also be customized in different colors according to the actual needs of customers and cut out different shapes.
