What Is Polycarbonate

Polycarbonate (commonly known as PC) is a high polymer material with carbonate groups in the molecular structure chain. According to the structure of the ester group, it can be divided into various types such as aliphatic, aromatic, and aliphatic-aromatic. Among them, the mechanical equipment performance of aliphatic and aliphatic-aromatic polycarbonate is low, which limits its application at the level of rubber products. At this stage, only aromatic polycarbonate has obtained industrial production. Because of the unique structure of polycarbonate, it has become a universal rubber product with a faster growth rate among the five major rubber products.

Polycarbonate (commonly known as PC) is a non-determinable thermosetting raw material with no color and transparency. Its name comes from its internal CO3 functional group.

Polycarbonate has no color and is completely transparent, high temperature resistance, impact resistance, flame retardancy BI grade, and excellent mechanical equipment performance at general application temperatures. Compared with the performance close to polymethyl methacrylate, polycarbonate has good impact resistance, high refractive index, and good production and processing performance. Only when the resist is added can it meet the UL94V-0 level.

However, the price of polymethyl methacrylate is relatively low compared to polycarbonate, and large and medium-sized devices can be produced according to their own convergence method. With the gradual expansion of the production scale of polycarbonate, the price difference between polycarbonate and polymethyl methacrylate is gradually becoming smaller.

Do not touch the boiling water above 60℃ for a long time. When the polycarbonate is ignited, thermal cracking vapor will be emitted, the plastic will burn and bubbles, but it will not be fired, and the open flame will be extinguished, giving out a scarce and thin formic acid smell. , The flame is light yellow, shining pale black gray, the temperature reaches 140 ℃ and just begins to soften, 220 ℃ melting, can absorb infrared induction spectrometer.

Polycarbonate has poor wear resistance. Some polycarbonate devices used for the main purpose of being easily worn out have developed a unique solution to the surface layer. Relative density: 1.20-1.22g/cm Linear expansion rate: 3.8×10 cm/cm°C

Thermal deformation temperature: 130°C. Not resistant to strong alkalis or strong acids. Polycarbonate is acid resistant, acid and alkali resistant. Polycarbonate is not resistant to ultraviolet rays and strong acids.
